Facts About Mediumship
-
You're not likely to see the occupation "medium" listed on a resume. The word "medium" has been surrounded by an aura of misunderstanding, awe, and fear since man first started looking for guidance from something greater than self. It often conjures up pictures of an old woman sitting in a dark room mumbling and waving her hands over a crystal ball while heaven-knows-what kinds of visitors from the Spirit World dance around.
So, what is a medium?
-
A psychic is someone who has learned to communicate through the psychic senses. He or she acts as a receiver/transmitter of information from the non-physical realms. A medium is a psychic who uses his or her psychic abilities specifically to contact individuals who were in a physical body but aren't any more. We call them "dead." (By the way, the "dead" ones usually get a pretty good chuckle over being called dead. They are so much livelier on the Other Side than those of us still in the body.) Mediumship is a type of psychic ability just as channeling or energy healing are types of psychic abilities.

Is mediumship the work of dark forces?
-
Every experience I have had as a medium has been loving. Our loved ones who have crossed over use this opportunity to reassure the ones left behind that they are alive and well. I have never had a "bad" spirit come through. That is not to say that it couldn't happen. We live in a plane of good and evil, positive and negative. Mediums can tune into positive vibrations or negative vibrations. It is up to the medium to control the type of energy that comes through. Most mediums take the responsibility of their work very seriously. The purpose of mediumship is to bring through information that aids in healing.
How can you tell if the information comes from a dark or a light force?
There are many ways of discerning if psychic information is coming from a light or dark source. Following are just some basic guidelines:
- Is there negativity of any kind?
- How do you feel after the experience?
- How do you know if a medium's work "of the light"?
- Use common sense.
Reputation counts for something. Go to a medium about whom you've heard consistent positive feedback.
Check out the medium's work place. If it looks like you just stepped into a bad "B" movie, you might consider stepping back out again. The environment should reflect the "lightness" of the medium.
- Check your responses against the guidelines given previously.
-
How does the information come through?
During and after your reading, review the information. Was it loving? Also, check your emotions. Do you feel good? If you answer "yes" to both questions, you can relax.
- Use common sense.
The realms of Light are still connected with the Divine source and can see the divine purpose behind everything. The truth is that we are constantly doing the best we can. Our friends of the Light are always aware of this so they never take a negative stand on anything. They may bring through understanding that the actions you're choosing might not be to your highest good, but guidance is never given from the negative standpoint of criticism or judgment of anyone or anything.
If there is any part of the message that is not loving—any part—you've dialed into 1-800-BAD-STUFF. Run, don't walk, to the nearest exit.
You should leave a medium reading feeling good. You may feel relieved, loved, comforted, excited, peaceful or any combination thereof.
Depending on the psychic abilities predominant in the medium, the information may come through in pictures, words, emotions, smells, tastes, and/or "knowings." I often describe medium reading as a combination of Pictionary, Charades, and Mumble Jumble (an old word game).

What information comes through?
-
Our friends on the Other Side decide who comes through and what they're going to say. The medium controls the "lightness" of the vibrations to ensure contacting only loving realms, but the details are up to Spirit. The spirits coming through will present information to "prove" it's them, such as general appearance, how they died, personality traits, etc. Information is rarely complete and detailed. (It's better than the old tin can and string, but not up to DSL yet.) However, whoever comes through will give enough information for the medium and client to understand what they are talking about. The deceased loved ones will usually answer questions asked, but if they feel the question isn't as important as something else, they will ignore the question and go to whatever they feel is most important for the well-being of the one "left behind."
